World Book Day 2020

 

 

Big Booky Breakfast 

Early bird students kicked off our day by enjoying a communal breakfast in the Library and a Booky Quiz at 8am, whilst fundraising for the charity Book Aid who help more people discover the joy and value of reading.

16-year-olds who choose to read for pleasure outside of school are more likely to secure the £££ jobs!Sic [Taylor (2011) Reading at 16 linked to better job prospects]

Read-a-thon

Students delighted in the opportunity to read for an hour and fund raise for Readforgood charity who encourage children to love reading.  

    

 

Y9 Guest author assembly and workshops

Rap artist, author and poet Breis entertained Y9 with his high energy and vocal gymnastics and then ran poetry writing workshops through the day. 

  

 

Other WBD activities

Staff dressed up and students were excited to guess the book characters, there was a Where's Wally hunt around school, a Guess Who Got Caught Reading photo competition and lots of fun and focus of the importance of reading for pleasure.
