IQM Flagship School

Lea Valley achieves prestigious IQM Flagship School status

We are delighted to announce that after a visit in May 2018 our Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) Flagship School status – the highest award level possible has been renewed. This tremendous achievement is a testament to the skill and hard work of all our staff and students, and their ongoing commitment to ensuring that inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Lea Valley.

The Inclusion Quality Mark provides schools with a nationally recognised framework to guide their inclusion journey. Inclusion promotes equal opportunities for all pupils, whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment and background, and the award pays particular attention to the provision made for, and the achievement of, different groups of pupils within a school and any pupils who are at risk of disaffection and exclusion.

At Lea Valley we are dedicated to making every possible opportunity available to all our students, and we do this by making sure every aspect of a Lea Valley education is tailored to the specific circumstances of the individual student.

And here are some extracts:

“This is a school that wants to listen, engage, debate and move forward strategically. (…) As a result, student achievement, attainment and progress have gone from strength to strength and the school not only retains its commitment to inclusion, but in my opinion, has increased this commitment and moved its practice forward at a fast pace.”

“…the school continues to provide a large menu of support for students with special educational needs and for those who are more vulnerable. This is to be commended, every student really matters at Lea Valley High School and the focus on the care and well-being of your young people is extraordinary.”

“Students come first at the school and their individual needs are a priority. Staff well-being is also carefully considered and measures are taken to try to make working conditions manageable. This work is never done and the school continues to consider ideas and suggestions on how to improve things further. Training and development of staff is an important part of this improvement agenda.”

“The ethos and atmosphere at the school is warm and friendly and clearly there are strong relationships between staff and students where staff are always prepared to go the extra mile for the young people in their care. Students are well motivated and they want to do well. Their attitudes to work and to each other are very positive.”

“Students of all abilities and disabilities are valued and appreciated in this school. Differences are celebrated rather than feared and the school successfully promotes equality of opportunity and inclusion for all.”

“I believe after three years as an IQM Centre of Excellence, the Lea Valley High School should now go forward as an IQM Flagship school. (…) The award is very well deserved.”

“They have been able to respond to changing national policies and have ensured that students in their school have had the very best education possible. They have provided a safe and secure environment for students and as a result they show great loyalty to the school and to their teachers.”

“Provision for students with SEND needs is carefully planned and delivered. Good provision for this group is a priority for the school where inclusion is ingrained in the vision.”

“The Staff CPD programme is carefully planned to support teachers at all stages of their career and provide them with regular opportunities to develop their pedagogy.”
